Hundreds of quarries have operated in the Apuan Alps since the days of ancient Rome. These quarries are far off of Italy's most-traveled tourist routes, so few visitors see them; most of us know Italian marble mainly as an endpoint in the chain of consumption. The quarries themselves, are their own isolated world: beautiful, bizarre and severe.

Near the coast to the north-west of Tuscany, the town of Carrara is best known for its proximity to the famous marble quarries that have supplied marble for many great works of art for the last 2000 years, including by the Romans and the Renaissance artists.

We are open every day, holidays included, from 1st March to 2nd November, from 10 am to 5 pm. Attention: reservations are accepted for groups of at least 20 people. For groups of less than 20 people reservation is not necessary, come and enjoy the first available tour. Once you have arrived at the meeting point by the Fantiscritti quarry yard, you would be able to book the first available tour.
